Sweet Artifice film festival

Sweet Artifice is a film festival I created based in the fictional city of Anastasia, a land of luxury. The films shown at the festival include Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Enchanted, Beauty and the Beast, and Barbie.

For this project, I was assigned to create a film festival based on a city from Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities. I chose the city of Anastasia, a city of luxurious goods. As you go further into the city, the more luxurious the city becomes. When you reach the heart of the city, you cannot leave and you work to create luxuries. I thought it would be an interesting take to see what a film festival for this kind of city would look like.

Film Festival Poster

The poster was the first thing I worked on for this project. Since I knew everything else was going to rely on the poster, I wanted to make the poster feel as if it were inviting the viewer to a wonderous land as opposed to a film festival. The colors are meant to be sweet and inviting. If the festival were real, the QR code would’ve led to a website ticket purchasing. Instead, it leads to a scene from one of the movies featured in the festival.

Film Festival Collector Cards

After each film, the attendants would receive a card based on each movie they watched. To add to the luxury of the Anastasia, these cards are transparent, almost like the crystals strown throughout the city. Each card was made of hand cut plexiglass and topped with a holographic star pattern film. The images on the cards were printed on sticker paper and were placed on both sides of the card.

Film Festival Tickets

The tickets for each film have the theming for the film, the date, time, location, and admit information. The bottom of the ticket would tear away, and the rest of the ticket would be kept as a souvenir for the event.

Film Festival Brochure

The brochure features all of the films along with a brief description and the starring cast. The back of the brochure features the same QR code as the poster.
